Vapor — Breathable Floor Protection

JOB SITE SURFACE PROTECTION for newly finished floors

Protect your work. Protect your reputation.

You’ve just laid a beautiful floor. The last thing you need is paint drips, foot traffic, or job site debris undoing that work before the project is even finished. Vapor breathable floor protection is built specifically for newly finished floors — hardwood, tile, stone, concrete and carpet — giving you a waterproof, non-slip barrier that lets moisture and solvents escape naturally without trapping them underneath.

Unlike plastic sheeting or disposable paper protection, Vapor is reusable, padded and breathable — engineered specifically for surfaces that are still curing. The proprietary Opticoat™ light-tack backing keeps it firmly in place without shifting, without tape, and without leaving any residue when you pull it up. One roll lasts months on the job site, saving you time, money and the headache of constant replacement.

Contractors and flooring installers trust Vapor because it works the first time and keeps working — no rework, no callbacks, no damage claims. Swiss-made, engineered for the demands of professional job sites, and available in large and small rolls.

Surfaces Vapor Protects

Vapor breathable floor protection works on virtually every newly finished surface a contractor encounters on a professional job site. Here’s where it performs best:

Hardwood floors icon

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are among the most vulnerable surfaces on any job site. Vapor’s breathable construction allows moisture and solvents from stains, oils and finishes to continue evaporating after installation — preventing bubbling, warping and finish failure that non-breathable protection causes.

Stone, tile and ceramic icon

Stone, Tile & Ceramic

Marble, slate, travertine, ceramic and porcelain tile all share the same vulnerability — freshly laid grout and adhesive need time to cure before taking heavy traffic. Vapor’s breathable construction lets moisture escape naturally from below while the waterproof top layer keeps liquids, paint and debris from reaching the surface above. No bubbling, no staining, no scratched finishes.

Concrete and screed icon

Concrete & Screed

Newly poured or dyed concrete and screed floors release significant moisture during curing. Vapor’s vapor-permeable polyethylene film allows that moisture to escape upward while blocking liquid spills, paint and debris from penetrating down to the surface below.

Stairs icon

Stairs

Stairs take more abuse than any other surface on a construction site — heavy boots, tools, equipment and constant foot traffic. Vapor’s Opticoat™ non-slip backing and padded top layer provide a safe, stable working surface on each tread and riser, available in a complete stair kit for fast installation.

Countertops icon

Countertops

Newly installed stone, quartz and wood countertops are expensive and easily scratched during finishing work. Vapor cuts easily to any shape or size, wrapping countertop surfaces cleanly to protect against tools, paint, grout and other job site hazards without leaving any adhesive residue behind.

Carpet icon

Carpet

For short-term protection of newly installed or existing carpet during renovation and finishing work, Vapor provides a clean, non-slip layer that keeps dirt, paint and liquids from penetrating the carpet fibers — without the sticky residue that plastic carpet protection film leaves behind.

Important: Switch off floor heating prior to laying Vapor. New surfaces should be covered after a minimum of 72 hours. Excess humidity must be extracted beforehand. Ideal room temperature 50°F to 77°F. Always observe the flooring manufacturer’s recommended drying and curing times before applying any surface protection.

Why Newly Finished Floors Need Breathable Protection

When a floor is freshly finished — whether it’s hardwood sealed with oil or varnish, natural stone grouted and sealed, or concrete that’s been poured and dyed — it isn’t done yet. The finish, adhesive, grout or sealant is still releasing moisture and solvents as it cures. That process can take anywhere from 24 hours to several weeks depending on the product, the surface and the conditions on site.

The problem with standard floor protection — plastic sheeting, paper rolls, even some nonwoven products — is that they trap that moisture underneath. When moisture can’t escape it builds up between the protection and the floor surface. The result is bubbling, warping, finish failure, mold growth and in some cases permanent damage to an expensive floor that was just installed. The contractor gets a callback. The client gets a damaged floor. Nobody wins.

Vapor is engineered specifically to solve this problem. The vapor-permeable polyethylene film on the top surface allows moisture and solvents to pass through and evaporate naturally — the floor underneath keeps breathing exactly as it needs to. At the same time the waterproof outer layer blocks liquid spills, paint, dust and foot traffic from reaching the surface below. Protection on top. Breathability underneath. No compromise.

Without Breathable Protection

  • Moisture trapped beneath protection
  • Finish bubbles, lifts or peels
  • Warping and cupping on hardwood
  • Grout staining and discoloration
  • Costly rework and callbacks
  • Delayed project completion

With Vapor Breathable Protection

  • Moisture escapes naturally through material
  • Finish cures correctly underneath
  • No warping, bubbling or peeling
  • Grout and adhesive cure cleanly
  • No rework, no callbacks, no claims
  • Project stays on schedule

How Vapor Breathable Floor Protection Works

Vapor is built from two layers working together — a waterproof, breathable top film and a light-tack Opticoat™ backing. Here’s how each layer does its job on the job site.

Waterproof icon

Waterproof Top Layer

Blocks liquids, paint and debris the moment they hit the surface — nothing gets through to the floor below.

Breathable icon

Vapor-Permeable Film

Lets moisture and solvents from newly finished floors escape naturally as they cure — no trapped moisture, no bubbling.

Opticoat backing icon

Opticoat™ Backing

A light-tack pressure-sensitive acrylate holds it firmly in place — no tape, no shifting, no residue when you pull it up.
