MarineLiner — Marine Surface Protection for Boat Builders

Non-slip, reusable and residue-free — temporary boat liner for fiberglass, gelcoats and decks

✔ INSTALLS FAST   ✔ STAYS PUT   ✔ PREVENTS DAMAGE

Marine Surface Protection — Ideal for Boat Builders

MarineLiner is a boat liner that protects fiberglass, gelcoat, and other new finishes — hulls, decks, and consoles — during fabrication and assembly, for boat builders of all sizes. It’s a quick, one-person install that’s non-slip and waterproof, keeping the surface protected from dropped tools, spills, and debris.

The last thing you need is metal shavings, dropped tools, paint spills, or foot traffic leaving marks that turn a finished job into expensive rework. That’s what temporary marine surface protection is for — and why boat builders choose MarineLiner over pre-mask tape and plastic film, which is single-use, and plastic sheeting, which shifts and causes a sandpaper effect.

Additional Benefits: MarineLiner is a residue-free, reusable boat liner that offers padded impact protection — unlike plastic film, which causes condensation and traps moisture, and plastic sheeting, which can leave diamond ghost marks, or pre-mask tape, which sticks to itself and is difficult to reposition. It’s designed to go down once and hold up through the entire build instead of getting replaced job after job. The Opticoat™ light-tack backing keeps it firmly in place for easy, one-person install. No tape. No sliding, bundling, or folding. No sandpaper effect. No residue — it pulls up clean when the job is done, with no damage to the finish underneath. One roll lasts longer than disposable coverings for the full length of a build or refit — saving you time, money, and the hassle of constant replacement.

Protect your work. Protect your reputation.

Boat builders, fabricators, and repair pros trust MarineLiner because it works the first time and keeps working — no rework, no callbacks, no damage claims. Swiss-made, ISO 9001 certified, engineered for the demands of the boatyard.

Surfaces MarineLiner Protects

MarineLiner works as temporary marine surface protection, yacht protection and a boat liner on virtually every surface a boat builder, fabricator or repair pro encounters on the job — indoors or out. Here’s where it performs best:

Fiberglass and gel coat icon

Fiberglass & Gel Coats

Fresh gel coat and raw fiberglass are among the most vulnerable surfaces in a boat builder’s shop — a single dropped tool or dragged part can mean hours of costly rework before the boat ever leaves the yard. MarineLiner’s impermeable barrier and padded core stand between your work and everyday fabrication hazards — metal shavings, dust, resin drips and incidental contact — while the light-tack Opticoat™ backing holds it firmly in place without pulling fibers or leaving marks on the finish underneath.

Stairs icon

Stairs

Companionway steps, boarding ladders and treads take constant abuse during a build or refit — from heavy boots and dropped tools to nonstop foot traffic. MarineLiner’s Opticoat™ non-slip (non-skid) backing and padded top layer give crews a stable, secure surface on every tread.

Boat deck protection icon

Boat Deck Protection

Teak and composite decking take a beating during builds, refits and repairs — tools, foot traffic and staged equipment all leave their mark on an unprotected deck. Unlike rigid diamond-plate covers that trap moisture and can damage decking underneath, MarineLiner’s soft nonwoven construction lays flat, blocks liquids and debris from reaching the surface, and provides a safe floor for boats.

Galley and counters icon

Galley & Counters

Newly installed laminate, stone and wood galley counters and workbenches are expensive and easily scratched during finishing work. MarineLiner cuts easily to any shape or size, wrapping surfaces cleanly to protect against tools and job site hazards without leaving any adhesive residue behind.

Ship's wheel icon — helm and console area protection

Helm & Console Areas

Electronics, dash surrounds and console surfaces are tightly packed with delicate components that are easy to scratch or dust up during a build. MarineLiner cuts and folds cleanly into tight corners around switches, gauges and wiring, keeping dust, debris and incidental tool contact away from surfaces that are expensive to replace and hard to source mid-project.

Marine carpet, fabric and leather icon

Marine Carpet, Fabric & Leather

Interior marine linings — carpet, fabric panels and leather seating — are especially vulnerable during refit work, when tools, materials and foot traffic move through cabin spaces daily. MarineLiner offers reliable yacht fabric protection that pulls up clean without pulling fibers or leaving adhesive behind, protecting soft interior surfaces through even a lengthy refit without a second thought.

Important: Before applying MarineLiner, confirm the surface is clean, dry and free of dust, oils or solvents. Ideal surface temperature is 41°F to 104°F. Test on an inconspicuous area first, especially on sensitive finishes such as gel coat, leather or polished surfaces.

Why Boats and Yachts Need Marine Surface Protection

On a boatyard floor, the margin for error on fresh gel coat or a finished deck is thin — one dropped tool, one dragged toolbox, one slip on a slick surface can turn a completed job into expensive rework. This is exactly why dedicated marine surface protection matters during every build, repair and refit. MarineLiner can eliminate unnecessary damage, prevent costly rework, and protect the finish you just spent hours getting right — the difference between handing over work exactly as it should be, instead of paying for damage that never should have happened.

Decks, companionways, galleys and fiberglass hulls take more abuse than any other surface in a boat builder’s shop. Metal shavings, dropped tools, dragged equipment and constant foot traffic all concentrate in the same high-use areas, day after day. Without real protection, even a freshly finished surface can end up scratched, scuffed or dented before the boat ever leaves the yard.

The Problem: Pre-masking tape, plastic film and plastic sheeting each solve part of the problem, but none of them solve all of it. Tape is slow to install and offers no impact protection. Plastic film is slippery, has no tack, and requires taping down every edge — with no impact resistance either. Diamond textured plastic sheeting is difficult to install, sticks to itself, and can trap moisture underneath its molded pattern, leaving ‘ghost’ diamond texture marks on gelcoat and fiberglass surfaces — a chemical reaction caused by uneven moisture and UV exposure under the raised pattern, not a physical impression. None of it is designed specifically for boats and yachts.

The Solution: MarineLiner is ideally suited for this problem. It installs fast — no tape, no fuss — and the Opticoat™ light-tack backing keeps it locked in place without shifting, unlike plastic sheeting. Its padded, tear-resistant core absorbs impact from dropped tools and won’t rip under dragged equipment, unlike pre-masking tape, which offers no cushioning at all. The impermeable barrier blocks liquids, oil and debris from reaching the surface below, and it cuts easily to shape, cleans up, and peels away residue-free — no ghosting, no marks — ready to reuse job after job. Installs fast. Stays put. Prevents damage.

Red X iconWithout Boat Floor Protection

  • Slow install — tape required
  • Difficult to install
  • No tack — slips and shifts underfoot
  • No impact protection — scratches and dents
  • Tears easily — tape and film rip under use
  • Liquids pool or soak through the surface
  • Diamond texture — leaves ghost marks
  • Slippery when wet — safety risk
  • Single-use — discarded after one job
  • May off-gas VOCs indoors
  • Costly rework and callbacks

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MarineLiner reusable, or is it single-use like tape or plastic sheeting?

Unlike pre-masking tape or plastic sheeting, MarineLiner is a reusable boat liner — built from a strong, soft-touch polyester nonwoven engineered for the realities of a working boatyard: dropped tools, dust, foot traffic and unpredictable conditions. The Opticoat™ light-tack backing keeps it firmly in place without tape, and it pulls up clean with no residue when the job is done. One roll typically lasts across multiple projects, making it genuine marine surface protection rather than a one-time-use product.

Does MarineLiner leave residue or damage the finish when removed?

No. MarineLiner uses a pressure-sensitive Opticoat™ backing rather than tape or a strong adhesive. It stays put through demanding boatyard conditions, but peels up clean — without leaving residue or damaging gel coat, fiberglass or finished surfaces underneath.

How long does one roll of MarineLiner last in a boatyard?

One roll of MarineLiner typically lasts across multiple builds, repairs and refits with normal use. Because it’s reusable and cleans easily, most boat builders use the same roll across several projects rather than replacing disposable protection every time.

Can MarineLiner be installed on a wet surface?

No. MarineLiner should be installed on a clean, dry surface. Wipe away dust, oils and any dew or condensation first so the Opticoat™ backing can grip properly. Once it’s down, wet conditions aren’t a problem: the impermeable top film blocks water, oil and debris from reaching the surface below, and because MarineLiner stays put instead of shifting, it avoids the “sandpaper effect” (the abrasion on gel coat that a sliding cover can cause), even when the top gets wet.

Why do rigid plastic covers leave marks on my boat’s finish?

Diamond-textured plastic sheeting doesn’t physically stamp a boat’s gel coat — the marks are a chemical and optical effect caused by trapped moisture and uneven UV exposure. The raised diamond pattern presses flat against the surface and blocks more sunlight than the surrounding channels, where tiny pockets of moisture collect instead. Over time, that uneven exposure bleaches or discolors the gel coat unevenly, leaving a visible “ghost” of the diamond pattern once the sheeting is removed. This effect is most common on smooth fiberglass and gel coat — teak decking isn’t vulnerable to it in the same way. MarineLiner’s flat, soft nonwoven construction has no raised pattern to create this uneven exposure.

Is MarineLiner the same as a boat liner coating or paint?

No. MarineLiner is a temporary, removable boat liner — a nonwoven roll material, not a roll-on paint or permanent non-skid coating. Some searches for “marine liner” turn up polyurethane deck coatings, which are a completely different, permanent product category. MarineLiner is designed to be applied, used through a project, and removed cleanly — not bonded to the boat.

How do you install MarineLiner?

Installation is straightforward: clean and dry the surface, then roll MarineLiner out with the Opticoat™ backing facing down and press it into place — no tape, no separate adhesive step. It cuts easily to fit tight corners, consoles and irregular shapes with scissors or a utility knife.

Can MarineLiner be used on stairs, consoles and other non-flat surfaces?

Yes. MarineLiner cuts and folds cleanly into tight corners, making it effective on companionway steps, helm and console areas, and other irregular surfaces — not just flat decks.

Is MarineLiner safe to use indoors with no ventilation?

Yes. MarineLiner contains zero VOCs and doesn’t require a respirator under normal use, making it safe for enclosed cabin spaces and interior refit work with limited ventilation.

Does MarineLiner work for every surface, or are there limits?

MarineLiner is built for light-to-moderate duty protection — it’s not rated for significant mechanical impact. For heavier demand applications and outdoor surfaces we recommend ALLProtect Original instead, which is engineered specifically for that level of demand.

Can I get MarineLiner with my company logo printed on it?

Yes. MarineLiner is available with custom logo printing, full color, up to 10cm x 100cm, so your brand is visible on every job site you work.

Does MarineLiner contain silicone?

We don’t have confirmed manufacturer data specifically addressing silicone content for MarineLiner. If this is a concern for your application, we recommend confirming directly with our team before large-scale use.

What size does MarineLiner come in, and how much does one roll cover?

MarineLiner comes in a single roll size — 39.4 in x 164 ft (1m x 50m) — covering 538 sq ft per roll. It’s also available with custom logo printing on request.
