Aerospace & Aircraft Surface Protection
TEMPORARY AIRCRAFT PROTECTION COVERING — for aviation surfaces, from leading edges and fuselage to cabins and cockpits
Aircraft surface protection is a padded, non-slip, self-adhesive and reusable protection covering that temporarily shields an aircraft’s finished surfaces, inside and out, during production, MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), inspections, upgrades and refurbishment. It cushions impacts, absorbs spills and stays in place without tape, then comes off before flight, unlike paint protection film or coatings.
It installs quickly on wings and leading edges, fuselage tops, flaps and engine cowlings, air stairs, cabins, cockpits and windows, and cuts to shape with scissors or a utility knife. That padded protection helps prevent hangar rash: the scratches, dings and scuffs an aircraft picks up while it’s being worked on, which can turn a routine inspection into a paint or interior repair.
When SurfaceLiner introduced ALLProtect to the aviation industry in 2015, it passed rigorous testing at MRO facilities and OEM service centers in high heat and high humidity, on windows, interiors, airframes and leading edges. Business aviation, where owners expect every finish to come back flawless, quickly became its core market, and today it also protects airliners, helicopters and military aircraft. Aviation companies choose it as padded mechanical protection because it’s easy to use, cost-efficient and doesn’t leave a residue, just what the industry needed. It creates a safe, non-slip work surface, even when wet or greasy, doesn’t shed fibers, and harsh fluids like Skydrol and landing gear fluids don’t go through its impermeable material. It also resists MEK, motor oil and grease.
ALLProtect aviation protection comes in three versions. ALLProtect Original is padded, heavy-duty protection in grey for wings, fuselage tops, cabin floors and stairs. ALLProtect Red offers the same performance as ALLProtect Original, with the added benefit of high visibility for improved safety, marking walkways, no-step zones and anything that must come off before flight. ALLProtect White is a thinner, translucent version for cabin windows and smooth interior surfaces. All three come in various roll sizes and thicknesses, with custom cuts and kits for air stairs and leading edges. They’re built for business aviation, commercial and military MRO providers, OEM production lines, completion centers, paint and interior shops, avionics technicians and flight departments, anywhere a finished aircraft surface needs protecting while other trades work.

Aircraft Surface Protection Guide
What to use where, from leading edges and air stairs to cabins and cockpits
Choosing temporary protection starts with the surface: what it’s made of, what condition it’s in, and what work is happening around it. Here’s how to protect the most common aircraft surfaces, and which product fits each one. ALLProtect Red is the same material as ALLProtect Original in high-visibility safety red, so use it anywhere crews need to see where protection starts and ends, where it’s safe to step, and what must come off before flight. Use the diagram as a quick reference, then see each surface below for the details.

Aircraft Exterior Protection
Wings, Leading Edges & Walkways
Leading edges and upper wing skins take knocks from ladders, stands and tools during every inspection. Padded protection doubles as temporary leading edge protection, with factory-cut leading edge kits made to order for the Dassault Falcon 6X, 7X and 900. High-visibility ALLProtect Red marks safe wing walkways and the edge itself, and stays non-slip even when wet or greasy.
Use: ALLProtect Original or Red
Flaps & No-Step Zones
Flaps and other control surfaces can be damaged by a single misplaced step. High-visibility ALLProtect Red flags them as no-step zones, while padded protection shields the finish.
Use: ALLProtect Red or Original
Remove completely before flap or control-surface movement and before engine start.
Airframe & Fuselage
Painted aluminum scuffs wherever tools, hoses and equipment rest against it, and technicians work at height on fuselage tops. Residue-tested on painted aluminum, it gives a GS3/R12 non-slip walkway on top, and in production and restoration it goes on bare aluminum skins by hand, cut neatly around access panels.
Use: ALLProtect Original, or ALLProtect Red for walkways
Engines & Cowlings
Engine cowlings and nacelles are painted, curved and constantly handled during engine work. Self-adhesive protection follows the curve and holds without tape, and high-visibility safety red is a clear reminder of what must come off before engine start.
Use: ALLProtect Red or Original
Air Stairs
Stairs are where slips happen. The Stair Kit is sized to fit private jet air stairs, with treads that stay non-slip even when wet or greasy and a railing wrap, and in high-visibility safety red it marks every step.
Use: ALLProtect Red or Original
Hangar Floors & the Ramp
Under the air stairs and around the aircraft, a padded, non-slip covering catches dropped tools and spills before they’re tracked aboard. High-visibility ALLProtect Red marks safe walkways across the hangar.
Use: ALLProtect Red or Original
Aircraft Interior Protection
Cockpits & Flight Decks
Seats, consoles, trim and instruments are easily scratched during avionics upgrades. Residue-tested on plated control knobs, with ALLProtect White for the windshield and high-visibility ALLProtect Red to flag valuable instruments.
Use: ALLProtect Original, White or Red
Windows, Glass & Windshields
Protects cabin windows, galley glass and mirrors from scratches during cleanup while keeping the cabin lit, since daylight passes through. It can also protect windshields on the occasions they need it.
Use: ALLProtect White, or ALLProtect Original where light isn’t needed
Cabin Carpet & Floors
Cabin carpet, stone and marble floors are costly to replace mid-refurbishment. Padded protective floor covering takes the foot traffic, leaves no marks on carpet and doesn’t shed fibers, and high-visibility ALLProtect Red marks a clear walkway through the cabin.
Use: ALLProtect Original or Red
Wood Veneer & Cabinetry
High-gloss veneer and galley cabinetry show every scratch, which is why completion centers protect them the day they’re installed. ALLProtect has been residue-tested on flat and high-gloss wood finishes. Apply it once lacquer or French polish has fully cured.
Use: ALLProtect Original
Seats & Furniture
Leather seats, tables and side ledges are among the most expensive parts of a cabin to refinish. ALLProtect is safe on leather and stone, and its padding cushions them from tools, parts and foot traffic during maintenance, refurbishment and completions.
Use: ALLProtect Original
Cabin Walls & Handrails
Upholstered walls, bulkhead panels and plated handrails take knocks as parts and toolboxes move through the cabin. Self-adhesive protection holds on vertical walls and wraps round handrails without tape.
Use: ALLProtect Original

Custom Cuts, Kits & Logo Printing
Protection made to fit your fleet and your brand
MRO providers, production lines, completion centers and flight departments protect the same aircraft types again and again, and every aircraft in the hangar is seen by owners and customers. Two options help with both: protection cut and kitted to fit your exact aircraft, and ALLProtect White printed with your logo.

Custom Cuts & Kits
Get the exact fit for every aircraft
Our ALLProtect line of products is also available in custom cuts. Do you have large quantities of fixed sizes and shapes that are needed to protect specific parts? Custom-cut pieces can be factory-made and pre-packaged in kits for specific dimensions and shapes, such as our Leading Edge Protection Kits and Air Stair Kits. This allows for quick onsite fitting while saving excessive time and labor costs.
- Large Roll (39.37″), or band-saw cut to any width with a clean factory edge
- Two-Pack (19.69″) for wing walkways and narrow surfaces
- Three-Pack (13″) for handrails, struts and curved surfaces (ALLProtect Original)
- Stair Kit with railing wrap, sized to fit private jet air stairs
- Leading Edge Protection Kits, made to order and factory-cut for the Dassault Falcon 6X, 7X and 900, packed 10 kits per box. Kits for other business jets on request
- Factory-cut kits for fixed sizes and shapes in larger quantities, pre-packaged for quick onsite fitting in MRO hangars, production lines and completion centers
- Perforated roll (ALLProtect Original) that tears off every 19.69″ (50 cm) for smaller pieces, keeping sharp cutting tools away from painted surfaces and high-gloss finishes. Custom perforated rolls are made to order

Padded Protection vs. Tape, Film & Wing Mats
How the common aircraft protection options compare in the hangar
Hangars use everything from masking tape to moving blankets to protect aircraft. Each has a place, but most weren’t made for curved airframes, working at height, Skydrol and hydraulic fluids, or a FOD-free hangar. Here’s an honest look at where each option works, and where it falls short on an aircraft.
| Option | Good for | Limits on aircraft |
|---|---|---|
| Masking tape & masking paper | Crisp paint lines and masking edges | No padding, slow on large areas, can leave residue on paint and transparencies, and paper tears and soaks up fluids |
| Plastic sheeting & masking film | Overspray and dust on airframes and interiors | Slippery underfoot, no impact protection, edges need taping, and torn pieces can become FOD |
| Paint protection & window films | Scratch protection on new paint and transparencies during production and delivery | Thin, with no padding or non-slip footing for active work, and usually single-use |
| Foam & rubber wing walk mats | Cushioned walkways on wings and work stands | Can shift on sloped or curved surfaces, and don’t conform to leading edges, air stairs or tight spaces |
| Moving blankets & drop cloths | Soft cover for interiors and removed components | Slide on smooth floors, absorb fluids, shed lint into cabins and avionics bays, and loose edges are a trip hazard |
| Cardboard & hardboard | Low-cost impact cover on dry, flat floors | Soaks through when wet, slides around, leaves dust in cabins, and is usually single-use |
| Fitted engine, canopy, pitot & rotor blade covers | Weather and FOD protection for parked aircraft and rotorcraft | Not a walking or working surface, and they come off when maintenance starts |
| SurfaceLiner padded, tape-free temporary protection | Active work during production, MRO, AOG repairs and refurbishment: impact, fluid spills, foot traffic and working at height, with non-slip footing, a self-adhesive backing, custom cuts and reuse from job to job | Not for still-curing paint, and not fire-retardant, so keep it clear of open flames and direct sparks. Remove it completely before towing, engine start or flight. Test first on sensitive surfaces. |
Many hangars use both: tape and film to mask paint lines, and ALLProtect on the surfaces technicians walk, kneel and lean on.
Safety in the Hangar
Non-slip footing, marked walkways and remove-before-flight checks
Worker safety comes first in every MRO hangar, from business jet maintenance to commercial C-checks and military depots. An aircraft in production or maintenance is a hard place to work safely: slick painted surfaces, curved wings at height, hydraulic fluid on the floor and tools everywhere. The right temporary protection does more than prevent damage. It gives technicians non-slip footing, even when wet or greasy, and makes hazards easier to see.

Non-Slip Footing at Height
ALLProtect Original and ALLProtect Red carry a GS3/R12 slip-resistance rating from the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (bfu). Their absorbent top layer soaks up hydraulic fluid, oil and water instead of leaving it standing on wings, fuselage tops and air stairs, so the surface stays non-slip even when wet or greasy, giving secure footing where a slip means a fall.
Use: ALLProtect Original or ALLProtect Red
Marked Walkways & No-Step Zones
OSHA’s walking-working surfaces standard (29 CFR 1910.22) asks employers to keep walking surfaces free of hazards and as dry as practicable. ALLProtect Red lays out a clear, padded and absorbent route across wings and through the cabin, and marks no-step areas such as flaps so technicians stay off them.
Use: ALLProtect Red
Hazard Marking
Use ALLProtect Red to outline air stair edges, door sills, wing edges and trip hazards on the hangar floor. The bright color shows where a surface changes or ends, especially at height and in dim hangars.
Use: ALLProtect Red
Natural Light in the Cabin
Opaque coverings over cabin windows turn the cabin dark. Translucent ALLProtect White protects the glass while letting daylight through, so cabins stay brighter during work. When technicians can see steps, cables, tools and floor edges clearly, there’s less chance of trips, dropped tools and accidental damage to the interior.
Use: ALLProtect White
Remove Before Flight
Temporary protection is for work on the ground, never for flight. Remove it completely before towing, engine start, control surface movement or flight, and never apply it to moving parts. ALLProtect Red makes the final walkaround easy: like a remove-before-flight streamer, its bright color stands out at a glance.
Use: Applies to all products; ALLProtect Red is easiest to spot
Stays Put, No Loose Edges
Loose sheets, mats and tape strips shift underfoot and can lift away to become FOD. ALLProtect’s self-adhesive backing holds it flat on wings, fuselage, air stairs and vertical surfaces, with no tape edges to trip on, and it doesn’t shed fibers the way blankets and cardboard do. When the job is done, it peels off cleanly without leaving a residue.
Use: All ALLProtect products
Aircraft MRO & Refurbishment Surface Protection
How to protect an aircraft during maintenance, repairs and refurbishment
Aircraft MRO surface protection is a temporary, padded covering laid over everything that stays on the aircraft (paint, windows, cockpit, carpet, veneer, seats and air stairs) while inspections, repairs, paint work and refurbishment happen around it. It keeps finishes undamaged from induction to return to service on business jets, airliners, turboprops, helicopters, and military and government aircraft, whether it’s a quick line check, a phase inspection or a C- or D-check at a Part 145 repair station with several trades on board.
1
Walk the Aircraft at Induction
When the aircraft arrives in the hangar, walk it with the project manager or lead technician. List every surface, inside and out, that stays on the aircraft and needs protecting, note which panels, avionics bays and cargo bays will be opened, and photograph any existing damage before work begins.
2
Protect the Cabin & Cockpit Before Work Starts
Cover floors, stairs, seats, windows and instruments before tools come on board.

Before tools, carts and parts come on board, cover cabin floors and seat tracks, cargo bay and lower lobe floors, the door entry, the air stairs and the seats with ALLProtect Original, along with bulkheads, galleys, lavatories and plated fixtures. Use translucent ALLProtect White on cabin windows and the windshield to keep the cabin and cockpit bright, and ALLProtect Red to protect valuable instruments.
Use: ALLProtect Original, ALLProtect White and ALLProtect Red
3
Lay Walkways on Wings & Mark No-Step Zones
Lay non-slip walkways on wings and fuselage tops, and mark no-step zones.
During heavy checks, technicians work on the wings and fuselage for days or weeks. Lay walkways on wings and fuselage tops that stay non-slip even when wet or greasy, cover the leading edges of wings and stabilizers, and mark no-step zones on flaps with ALLProtect Red. Skydrol and other hydraulic fluids don’t go through the impermeable material, so drips stay off the paint. On longer checks, inspect protection every 2–4 weeks and replace worn pieces.
Use: ALLProtect Original and ALLProtect Red
4
Mark One Route for Every Trade
Mark one main path from the air stairs through the cabin for every crew.
Avionics, interior, sheet metal, structures and paint technicians all share the same door and aisle. Mark the main route from the air stairs through the cabin with ALLProtect Red so every crew uses the same path. It’s padded and self-adhesive, so it stays put underfoot without tape.
Use: ALLProtect Red
5
Protect New Paint & Interiors as They’re Completed
Cover new carpet, veneer, leather and stone as soon as they’re installed.
During a repaint or cabin refurbishment, cover new carpet, high-gloss veneer, leather seats and stone floors as soon as they’re installed. Wait until touched-up or newly painted surfaces have fully cured before covering them, and let lacquer or French polish cure for its manufacturer’s full curing time. ALLProtect can be vacuumed clean and reused 10 times or more if the self-adhesive backing is kept clean, so pieces still in good condition move on to the next aircraft.
Use: ALLProtect Original
6
Remove & Inspect Before Return to Service

Line Maintenance & AOG: Keep Protection on the Shelf
Line maintenance and AOG repairs don’t wait for supplies to arrive. Keep a roll of ALLProtect Original and a stair kit in the hangar or in the AOG go-team’s kit, so the cabin floor, air stairs and work area are protected the moment the job starts. ALLProtect is suitable for outdoor use, so it works on the ramp too.
Aircraft Production & Completions Surface Protection
When protection starts at each stage of a new aircraft
An aircraft’s finish is at its best the day it’s painted, and then weeks or months of assembly, systems installation and interior completion happen around it. Here’s where temporary protection fits into each stage of production, from tier-1 sub-assembly to the final assembly line (FAL) and completion centers.
1
Sub-Assembly & Transport
Wings, fuselage sections and control surfaces are often built by tier-1 suppliers at one site and shipped to another for final assembly. Protect finished surfaces with ALLProtect Original before they’re moved, so they arrive without scratches or dents. Factory-cut kits make repeat parts quick to protect.
Use: ALLProtect Original
2
Final Assembly & Systems
Lay non-slip walkways on the final assembly line, where traffic is heaviest.
On the final assembly line (FAL), wiring, hydraulics, avionics, landing gear and engine installation bring the heaviest traffic of the build. Lay walkways on wings and fuselage tops that stay non-slip even when wet or greasy, protect air stairs and door entries, and mark no-step zones on flaps with ALLProtect Red. On longer builds, check protection every 2–4 weeks and replace worn pieces.
Use: ALLProtect Original and ALLProtect Red
3
Paint & Finishing
Wait for paint to cure fully, then protect it before work resumes.
Fresh paint must cure fully before anything goes on it. Once it has cured, protect the newly painted surfaces before technicians return to work around them.
Use: ALLProtect Original or ALLProtect Red
4
Interior Completion
Protect floors, veneer, seats and windows as each one is installed.
Carpets, non-textile flooring (NTF), wood veneer, monuments, galleys and seats are installed and finished, often during VIP completions. Cover the honeycomb floor panels before monument outfitting begins, and protect each surface as soon as it’s finished, including high-gloss veneer, leather, stone and plated fixtures. Let lacquer or French polish cure for its manufacturer’s full curing time first. Use ALLProtect White on cabin windows to keep the cabin bright, and lay Red walkways through the cabin.
Use: ALLProtect Original, ALLProtect Red and ALLProtect White
5
Ground Tests, Flight Test & Delivery
Remove protection area by area as each stage is signed off.

Inspect every surface as protection comes off. All protection must be off before engine runs, flight test and delivery. ALLProtect Red’s bright color makes the final walkaround easy.
Use: All products; ALLProtect Red is easiest to spot
VIP Completions: Protect Each Finish as It’s Installed
Completion centers install the most expensive finishes in aviation (high-gloss wood veneer, carpet, leather seats, stone floors and plated fixtures) while other trades are still working around them. Protect each surface the day it’s installed, not at the end, and keep it protected until the final walkaround before delivery. Perforated rolls and factory-cut kits keep knives away from finished surfaces.
How Much Aircraft Surface Protection Do You Need?
Roll sizes, coverage and planning tips

Measure the areas you want to protect in square feet, add about 10% for overlaps, edges and trimming, then divide by the coverage of the roll you’re using.
Roll Sizes and Coverage
| Product | Roll size | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| ALLProtect Original or Red, Large Roll | 39.37 in × 82 ft (1 m × 25 m) | 269 sq ft |
| ALLProtect Original Perforated Roll | 39.37 in × 98.4 ft (1 m × 30 m), tears every 19.69 in | 323 sq ft |
| ALLProtect Two-Pack | 2 rolls, 19.69 in × 82 ft each | 269 sq ft total |
| ALLProtect Original Three-Pack | 3 rolls, 13 in × 82 ft each | 266 sq ft total |
| ALLProtect Stair Kit | 3 rolls, 24 in × 82 ft each, plus a 2.76 in railing wrap | 511 sq ft total |
| ALLProtect White | 39.37 in × 164 ft (1 m × 50 m) | 538 sq ft |
Example: A heavy check that needs 250 sq ft of cabin floor and air stairs plus 150 sq ft of wing walkways comes to 400 + 10% = 440 sq ft, so two Large Rolls of ALLProtect Original (538 sq ft).

Planning Tips
- Hot ramps and cold hangars: ALLProtect sticks best on surfaces between 41°F and 104°F (5–40°C). Sun-heated aluminum on the ramp can get hotter than that, which may cause adhesive transfer, so apply it in the shade or inside the hangar. ALLProtect is suitable for outdoor use once it’s in place. Cold surfaces reduce adhesion, so let rolls warm to room temperature first.
- Long checks: Inspect protection and the surface underneath every 2–4 weeks.
- Windows: On glass and other transparent surfaces, ALLProtect White can stay on for up to 2 months of UV exposure.
- Reuse: ALLProtect can be lifted, vacuumed clean and reused 10 times or more, from aircraft to aircraft, which lowers the cost per job. Keep the self-adhesive backing clean; if it gets dirty it loses its stick, but it can still be used as loose protection.
- Boeing Distribution: ALLProtect is also available through Boeing Distribution under part number ALLPRUS0350-100-0025.
- Technical data sheets: Download the data sheets for ALLProtect Original, ALLProtect Red and ALLProtect White.
- Not sure how much you need? Send us your aircraft make and model and the areas you want covered, and we’ll estimate it for you.

Use ALLProtect Original for floors, wings, fuselage, air stairs and interiors; high-visibility ALLProtect Red for walkways, no-step zones, hazard marking and valuable instruments; and translucent ALLProtect White for cabin windows, glass and windshields. Many MROs use all three on the same aircraft.
How does non-slip surface protection improve safety in aircraft maintenance?
A slip on a wing, fuselage top or air stair can mean a fall. ALLProtect Original and ALLProtect Red carry a GS3/R12 slip-resistance rating (bfu) and stay non-slip even when wet or greasy. High-visibility ALLProtect Red marks walkways, edges and no-step zones, and the self-adhesive backing means there are no loose sheets or tape edges to trip on, in business aviation, commercial and military MRO hangars alike.
Does ALLProtect leave residue on aircraft paint?
No. ALLProtect Original and Red are residue-tested on painted aluminum, flat and high-gloss wood finishes and plated control knobs, under high heat, high humidity, freezing temperatures and changes between them, and ALLProtect doesn’t leave a residue. Apply it only to fully cured paint, and test first on sensitive surfaces.
Can ALLProtect be used on aircraft wood veneer and leather?
Yes. ALLProtect is residue-tested on flat and high-gloss wood finishes and is safe on leather, stone and marble, so it can protect veneer cabinetry, leather seats and stone floors during refurbishment and completions. Let lacquer or French polish cure for its manufacturer’s full curing time first, and test first on sensitive surfaces.
Is ALLProtect resistant to Skydrol and other hydraulic fluids?
Yes. ALLProtect’s absorbent top layer soaks up oil and hydraulic fluid leaks, and Skydrol and landing gear fluids don’t go through its impermeable material, so drips stay off the paint underneath. ALLProtect Original, Red and White also resist MEK, a strong solvent used in aircraft maintenance.
Does ALLProtect shed fibers or create FOD?
No. ALLProtect doesn’t shed fibers the way moving blankets, cardboard and carpet runners can, so it’s well suited to cabins, cockpits and avionics bays where foreign object debris (FOD) is a concern. Its self-adhesive backing holds it flat, so it won’t lift and blow away like loose sheets, and it can be vacuumed clean and reused.
Can you walk on aircraft wings with ALLProtect?
Yes, on the areas of the wing that are approved for walking. ALLProtect Original and Red carry a GS3/R12 slip-resistance rating (bfu), and their absorbent top layer soaks up hydraulic fluid, oil and water. Mark no-step zones such as flaps with high-visibility ALLProtect Red so technicians stay off them.
What is the best non-slip covering for military aircraft wings?
For maintenance on the flightline or in the depot, ALLProtect Red gives a high-visibility, padded walkway that stays non-slip even when wet or greasy and peels off without residue when the job is done. Permanent non-skid wing walk coatings and tapes (such as MIL-PRF-24667C) mark the approved walk areas for the life of the aircraft; ALLProtect complements them by protecting the surrounding paint and adding footing during maintenance.
What are the best non-slip mats for flightline maintenance?
Loose wing mats and foam pads can shift underfoot or lift in flightline wind. ALLProtect is a self-adhesive, non-slip alternative: it stays put on wings, air stairs and fuselage, covers the whole work area edge to edge, doesn’t shed fibers and is suitable for outdoor use. ALLProtect Red adds high visibility for walkways and no-step zones.
What is the best temporary walkway protection for helicopter maintenance?
ALLProtect Red and ALLProtect Original give technicians padded, non-slip footing on upper cowlings, the tail boom and around main rotor head access areas, and stay non-slip even when wet with turbine oil or hydraulic fluid. The self-adhesive backing holds on curved and vertical surfaces such as the vertical stabilizer without tape, and ALLProtect Red’s high visibility marks walkways and no-step zones.
How do you protect wing walkways during aircraft final assembly?
On the final assembly line (FAL), lay ALLProtect Red on wing and fuselage walkways once the paint has fully cured, before systems, landing gear, flap track and engine installation begin. It’s padded, non-slip and high-visibility, and factory-cut kits make repeat aircraft quick to protect at each station.
How do you protect VIP aircraft interiors during completion?
Completion centers protect each finish the day it’s installed: ALLProtect Original over carpet, stone floors, high-gloss veneer, leather seats and plated fixtures, ALLProtect White on cabin windows, and ALLProtect Red for the main route through the cabin. ALLProtect leaves no marks on carpet, and perforated rolls and factory-cut kits keep knives away from finished surfaces.
Can ALLProtect be used on aircraft windows and windshields?
Yes. Translucent ALLProtect White protects cabin windows, glass and windshields from scratches while letting daylight through, so the cabin stays bright. On glass and other transparent surfaces, it can stay on for up to 2 months of UV exposure.
How do you install and remove aircraft surface protection?
Roll ALLProtect out over a clean, dry surface, cut it to size or tear a perforated roll along its perforations, and press it down; the self-adhesive backing holds it without tape. ALLProtect is truly self-adhesive; it doesn’t use the light-tack Opticoat backing found on MarineLiner. To remove it, lift a corner, peel it back and roll it up for reuse.
Does aircraft surface protection have to be removed before flight?
Yes. Temporary surface protection is for work on the ground only. Remove it completely before towing, engine start, control surface movement or flight, and never apply it to moving parts. High-visibility ALLProtect Red is the easiest to spot on the final walkaround.
Is ALLProtect fire-retardant?
No. ALLProtect is not fire-retardant and is not certified to FAR 25.853, the FAA fire test standard for airline cabin interior materials, so keep it clear of open flames, direct sparks, welding and other heat sources. If an airline cabin program or contract calls for fire-retardant protection, contact us.
Can ALLProtect be used outdoors and on the ramp?
Yes, ALLProtect is suitable for outdoor use. It sticks best on surfaces between 41°F and 104°F (5–40°C). Sun-heated aluminum can get hotter than that and may cause adhesive transfer, so apply it in the shade or inside the hangar when possible.
How long can surface protection stay on an aircraft?
Landolt recommends inspecting the protection and the surface underneath every 2–4 weeks and replacing worn pieces. On glass and other transparent surfaces, ALLProtect White can stay on for up to 2 months of UV exposure.
Is ALLProtect reusable?
Yes. ALLProtect can be lifted, vacuumed clean and reused 10 times or more, from aircraft to aircraft, which lowers the cost per job. Keep the self-adhesive backing clean; if it gets dirty it loses its stick, but it can still be used as loose protection.
Is aircraft surface protection the same as speed tape?
No. Speed tape is an aluminum tape used for temporary repairs that can stay on the aircraft in flight. ALLProtect is padded temporary protection for work on the ground, and it must be removed before flight.
Do I still need surface protection if my hangar has anti-slip floors and work platforms?
Yes. Anti-slip hangar floor coatings, maintenance platforms and fall protection make the floor and platforms safer, but they don’t protect the aircraft itself. ALLProtect covers the wings, fuselage, air stairs and cabin, giving technicians non-slip, high-visibility footing on the aircraft while protecting its paint and interior.
Which business jets is ALLProtect used on?
ALLProtect is used extensively on business jets and turboprops, including Gulfstream, Dassault Falcon, Bombardier, Learjet, Embraer and Pilatus aircraft, among many others. It protects them during maintenance, refurbishment and completions, from wings, leading edges and air stairs to cabin floors, windows and interiors. Factory-cut Leading Edge Protection Kits are available for the Dassault Falcon 6X, 7X and 900.
Can ALLProtect be used on helicopters and military aircraft?
Yes. ALLProtect can be used on business jets, airliners, turboprops, helicopters, and military and government aircraft, as well as on warbirds during restoration.
Can you make custom-cut kits or logo-printed protection for my aircraft?
Yes. SurfaceLiner can factory-cut and pre-package kits to your aircraft’s dimensions for MRO hangars, production lines and completion centers, such as air stair kits and Leading Edge Protection Kits for the Dassault Falcon 6X, 7X and 900, packed 10 kits per box, with kits for other business jets on request. Logo printing is available on ALLProtect White only. Custom-cut kits and logo-printed products are made to order, so contact us for lead times and pricing.
Can SurfaceLiner supply military, defense and government bids?
Yes. SurfaceLiner supplies ALLProtect temporary surface protection for military, defense and government aircraft maintenance, and quotes for government bids and defense contractors. ALLProtect has been used by military aviation units, and SurfaceLiner’s CAGE code is 9GVG2. If your contract requires other supplier details, such as a National Stock Number (NSN), technical data sheets or country-of-origin information for the Buy American Act or the Berry Amendment, contact us and we’ll confirm what we can provide. ALLProtect is made in Switzerland by Fritz Landolt AG.
What is the difference between ALLProtect Red and ALLProtect Original?
ALLProtect Red offers the same performance as ALLProtect Original, with the added benefit of high visibility for improved safety. Both are padded, non-slip, self-adhesive and reusable; Red is the choice for walkways, no-step zones and hazard marking in commercial and military MRO hangars.
What is the best temporary protection for aircraft cabins during C-checks?
During C- and D-checks on commercial airliners, ALLProtect Original covers floorboards and seat tracks in the stripped cabin, cargo and lower lobe floors, galleys, lavatories and the door entry, and ALLProtect Red marks the main route for every trade. It’s padded, non-slip even when wet or greasy, doesn’t shed fibers and holds itself in place without tape, and rolling toolboxes and carts roll over it without it shifting or tearing. ALLProtect is not fire-retardant, so check whether your airline’s cabin program requires fire-retardant protection.
